Description in English: The tropical forest is full of dangers, but Bella, the butterfly, is very daring and is not afraid of anything. One day she gets up close to the elephants splashing in the water and she sees herself in a situation she can’t control. Bella asks for help, but no one can help her. In the end help comes, thanks to the aid of an unexpected character… It is difficult for a daring and adventurous butterfly to pay heed to advice and warnings… Luckily, we always find some friend ready to lend a hand to overcome difficulties and, of course, a mother’s unconditional support and understanding.
The author, inspired after a trip to an elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka, writes this story with a simple and tender message in which questions such as the need for caution, the importance of friendship, solidarity and the difficult learning process in infancy, are posed. With great expression, and harmony between the text and illustrations, the book manages to get the reader to identify with the character, experience the adventures and feel the happy feelings. To draw the reader in, Rachel Chaundler uses the present tense and shorter text.
The author not only tells the story effectively and concisely, but she accomplishes infusing each page with emotion. Bernardo Carvalho creates his illustrations to maximize the effect of silk-screen printing; working in solid, brilliant and happy colors in a range of dyes that contrast and complement his earlier work with the same writer, composing scenes with dynamic, clear strokes, and creating affectionate characters that the reader cares about.
