Description in English: -What will the king eat? -He’ll have… A cruel and ambitious king who spends hours counting his fortune; a man and a woman more poor than the spiders; a village of peasants who have been cheated by their king; and a cooking pot that travels from place to place gathering those together to share with them what they justly deserve.
These are the ingredients that make up this traditional Danish story, likely written with the idea of entertaining and comforting those who only had their imaginations with which to entreat destiny. The text is formally presented as homage to Daniel Castelao, a great defender of social justice. Through the inquiry “What will the king eat?…” this imaginary element –the traveling cooking pot- distorts reality to benefit the weakest, with a reverse logic that upends the order of things.
Told with ingenuity and humor so that the youngest readers come up with their own conclusions is a classic story whose message is still relevant today.
